Colorado Mule Deer Hunts

We specialize in southern Colorado mule deer hunts.

Colorado Elk Hunts - HMH Outfitters

There are more than 50 peaks that are over 14,000 feet or higher above sea level.  Those peaks are covered in forests that provide a sanctuary for incredible deer hunting.

High Mountain Hunts provides fully guided hunts and will be a two to one ratio or one to one ratio. We have guides who have hunted this area for years and their knowledge is top notch. They spend all year in the woods learning the migration and habits of the animals in our units.  Guiding and hunting is their passion.

The Colorado San Juan and Rio Grande National Forests are home to excellent mule deer hunting. We exclusively hunt GMU 76, 77, 78, and 771.

The hunting area consists of varying elevation from 5,500ft above sea level to 14,000ft above sea level. While the terrain will vary throughout the trip, you should expect rough, steep, rocky areas, open areas, and wooded areas.

The weather will change drastically with the altitude and is highly unpredictable. You can expect temperatures ranging from 20℉-80℉. Sufficient hiking boots, rain, and cold weather gear are a necessity for each guest.

You’ll have everything you need  to focus on your hunt for the day.

After you get back from a long day of hunting you will have a hot home-cooked meal waiting for you.  Our camp host will make sure that you are fed and ready to go! You will have amazing accommodations while you stay with us that will compete with any hotel.

All you need to bring is your personal gear, rifle, ammunition, bow, and arrows. A short list of recommended gear will be provided upon booking.

Our lodge is within walking distance to downtown Pagosa Springs where  you can rest in the local hot springs. Also nearby, you can enjoy some exceptional post-hunt trout fishing on the banks of the San Juan river.

Wounded Game Policy

In the event a big game animal is wounded, your hunt is over until the animal is found. Animals that are wounded and get away are considered yours. The Outfitter and guides will expend maximum effort in an attempt to recover your animal, and will make all final determinations as to the ability of the Client to continue hunting if the animal is not recovered.
